Admission Requirements

Prerequisites 
For admission into our applied systems engineering program, all applicants are expected to have: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in math, hard science (like biology, chemistry, physics, etc.) or engineering from an accredited college or university
  • GPA of at least 3.0
  • Five years of technically relevant professional work experience (which may include internships, technically-related summer and/or part-time positions, as well as participation in a cooperative education program)

Interview
You may be required to take part in a video or phone interview as part of the application process.

Admission Deadlines

Upon submission, only complete applications are forwarded to the admission committee for consideration. This means English Language Proficiency is satisfied, all academic history transcripts are present, and three recommendations are submitted. Although applicants can submit with these requirements unmet, they must be satisfied by the final application deadline to ensure your application can be considered for admission to your desired Fall start semester.

How to Apply

Ready to apply? You're in the right place.  We are accepting applications now!   

What You Need  
Applications are submitted electronically and include a nonrefundable application fee. You will need to upload the following items as part of your application:  

  • Official transcripts from each institution attended. Transcripts not in English must be accompanied by a certified translation. If you are admitted, you will be asked to send an additional official transcript. You will receive instructions at that time.  
  • Lawful Presence Document (if living in the U.S.). Applicants must verify their lawful presence  in the United States prior to enrollment.  
  • English Language Proficiency. All applicants must satisfy this requirement before their application is considered for admission. U.S. Citizens and U.S. Permanent Residents can satisfy the requirement with their lawful presence document. All other applicants should refer to the English Language Proficiency requirements.
  • References. You will initiate the process through the online application by entering the name and email addresses of three references. Once entered, an email is sent to your recommender requesting they submit the electronic recommendation in support of your application. Please inform your references that they must submit the form for your application to be complete.  
  • Test Scores (Optional).  You  may choose to submit standardized test scores, most commonly GRE or GMAT. This is not required for admission into the program.  

Program-Specific Questions/Materials  

  • Statement of Purpose.  Describe  your specific career goals and objectives, the decision to pursue an advanced degree, and other information that may be useful to the admissions committee.   
  • Professional Resume or Curriculum Vitae. No format preference. This should be the same as used when applying for work.

Please set aside sufficient time — usually about two to three weeks — for Graduate Studies to receive and process your supporting documents. We cannot guarantee applications received after the deadline will be reviewed in time for the applied semester.  

Application Fee  
A non-refundable application fee must be paid online with a credit card or electronic check if you have a U.S. bank account. The application fee is $95 for U.S. applicants and $105 for international applicants. Your application will not be received until the fee is paid.

Once your application is submitted you should monitor its progress, as well as the submission of recommendations and supporting documents, using the Status and Checklist tabs of your application portal.

International Applicants

Georgia Tech considers you an international applicant if you are neither a U.S. citizen nor a U.S. permanent resident, regardless of where in the world you live.  

The admissions criteria applied in evaluating international applicants are essentially the same as those for U.S. citizens. All application materials, including transcripts and recommendations, must be submitted online and in English. 

English Language Proficiency 

Please refer to the English Language Proficiency requirements to learn how international applicants can satisfy the requirements. You should know how you are satisfying this requirement before you submit your application, as we cannot consider your application for admission while this requirement remains unmet, and fees paid by you will not be refunded if you are unable to satisfy the requirement after application submission.

TOEFL scores are valid for two years and the minimum required total score on the exam is 100 for the internet-based TOEFL exam (iBT). For more information about these tests visit the  ETS official TOEFL website.  

Transcripts  

All applicants to the PMASE Program must hold a U.S. bachelor's degree or equivalent to be considered for admission. A three-year degree is not equivalent to the U.S. bachelor's degree. Neither professional designations nor work experience will count toward the fourth year of study. We're unable to make exceptions to this policy.  

The Georgia Tech Graduate Studies Office does not accept any private evaluation of academic documents. Official transcripts and degree documents must be submitted at the time of application and the Georgia Tech Graduate Studies Office will evaluate them.  

The Georgia Tech Graduate Studies Office requires the following documents from international applicants:  

  • Official native language transcripts  
  • Official English translation of the native language transcript  
  • Official native language degree documents  
  • Official English translation of the native language degree document

Payments and Refunds

All payments of tuition and fees are handled by the Bursar’s office. For instructions on how to pay, please visit the student payment portal.   

The Georgia Tech Bursar’s Office processes refunds via EFT, also known as Direct Deposit, Monday through Friday. Refunds and overpayments are electronically disbursed to the student’s checking or savings account and should be in the students account on the following day or sooner. You are not always eligible for a refund when dropping a course, so please read over the refund policy.

Curriculum

The two-year program consists of six core courses on systems engineering fundamentals, modeling and simulation, SysML, and system design. An additional four courses will provide you a specialization in complex systems.

You get hands-on experience with working in teams and everything you learn is directly applicable, like tools and skills that help you organize complex problems and evaluate different options and how they will impact engineering and the system as a whole down the line. The take-away is something that can be applied in all sorts of career paths.
